Definition of HIA

HIA is a combination of procedures, methods and tools by which a policy, program or project may be judged as to its potential effects on the health of a population and the distribution of those effects within the population. (WHO Gothenburg consenzus paper, 1999)

The aims of the PROJEcT = HIA-NMAC:

  • Build HIA networks in Eastern Europe
  • Strengthen HIA capacity in acceding and candidate countries
  • Work with parallel case studies in HIA of various sectors
  • Progress methodology of incorporate socio-economic health determinants into HIA
  • Develop guidelines to introduce HIA on local level
